It’s a pleasure to reconnect with Digital Health Insurance Thought Leader Paolo Meciani (don’t miss his Innovators’ interview!) on what to expect in the digital health sector this year:
Digital health benefits will become more evident for citizens... Over the last three years the investments in digital health have been overwhelming and steeply increasing. Notwithstanding the large amounts of innovative and effective solutions offered by many startups and unicorns to the marketplace, digital health innovation hasn’t significantly impacted yet people’s life on an extended scale. A wider adoption of these innovative digital health solutions would require tackling the most critical issues regarding the health sector, including:
• Lack of data interoperability
• Medical data security
• Data rules & regulations
The pandemic is having a structurally positive impact over these hurdles in several geographies, changing the legal framework and paving the way towards the innovations’ adoption and granting a significant impact on the health of a wider population.
Health insurers are going to develop services for specific target ... In 2021 a variety of digital health initiatives took place; only a few of these initiatives addressed specific target segments, such as wellness & prevention, fertility, silver age, senior living, illness as mental health and dementia. In 2022 while health insurers will turn these initiatives as a central component of their offering, the digital health platforms still won’t be relevant in the sector.
